Off to the hospital we went! Part 1

Let me start at the very beginning....

Tuesday morning Brady woke up with a sore throat. I really did not think much about it because there are some days that I wake up with a sore throat depending on how cold I get at night. By midmorning, it usually goes away and all is good. So, I told him that he would feel better later in the day and there was nothing that we could do about it right now. As the day progressed, my mother-in-law, who keeps him during the day, called me and said that Brady was starting to run a fever and had been sleeping a lot that afternoon! GREAT! Just what we need in our household...another round of strep throat. We have had strep in our house so much that it just doesn't surprise us anymore when it comes back around. H actually got her tonsils out in June right after school let out for the summer so that we wouldn't have to deal with it anymore....I think B is next to get his tonsils out! T hasn't really had as much trouble with her tonsils as the other two have. Anyway, back to our story. By Wednesday morning, he was feeling worse. Early Wednesday around 3:30am, B had gotten into bed with me burning up with fever. 103!!!! Wow! I got the motrin gave it to him, then attempted to go back to sleep. He did not want to go to sleep right then. Every time I would drift off to dreamland, he would oh, so sweetly wake me back up. He finally decided to go back to sleep around 6am. I had to get up at 6:30 to get ready for work. This was NOT going to be a great workday!!!!

Around 3:30 that afternoon, my mother-in-law called me to tell me that Brady was VERY hot and needed me to come home. He was not very happy and would not stop crying and just did not feel good. I got someone to watch the phones for me and left for the day at 4. I went and picked B up and took him straight to the dr for our dreaded diagnosis.....The strep test was negative but he did have some puss pockets on his tonsils. GREAT! She gave us a prescription for Omniceph (?) and we went to pick it up....$30 later, we left the store. This medicine better work!!! We got home and I made dinner so that Mario, H, and T could go to church. Off they went and so I gave B a bath. Usually baths are good for sick children. It makes them feel somewhat better after a long day of feeling so bad. Not tonight. I got him out of the tub and put his clothes on him. We attempted to sit down under the covers and watch a movie but that never happened. All of a sudden out of the blue, B starts screaming that his stomach hurts and doubles over. He keeps holding his stomach saying how much it hurts and will not let me touch it. I take him to the bathroom to see if maybe he needs to go and he does so I think he is going to feel better. Boy, was I wrong! About 10 minutes later he starts crying again holding his stomach and standing on his toes. He could not put any weight on his feet and just wanted me to hold him. I picked him up and tried to sit him on my hip and he screamed out in pain.
I was worried that it was his appendix so I started to push around and kick into "nurse" mode and started checking him out and making sure that it was hurting in all of the right spots. Called Amy and grandma to see what I should do....I have to call my sister for everything! That is what big sisters are for, right? I decided to go ahead and take him. I called Mario to see if he was on his way and he was still at church. He got the girls and headed home. In the meantime, Anita came over to watch the girls and Mario and I left. As soon as we got back to Triage, they took his temp and it was 103.5. We got back to a room so quickly, we were amazed.....

This story will be continued in just a little while.....
